Makar Sankranti is celebrated throughout India as a harvest festival. It is a way of giving thanks to the elements of nature that help man. This is the period when the winter recedes, paving the way for the summer. It is the time the farmers bring home their harvest. In Gujrat it is celebrated as the Kite flying day.

Christmas Celebration for Kids

As part of the Chennai International Film Festival 2011 the Goethe-Institut Chennai/ Max Mueller Bhavan invites kids between 6 and 12 to their “Christmas Celebration for Kids”
To get into the Christmas mood, the Children’s Day will start off with the Czech-German movie “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”, produced by East German DEFA (German Movie Group) in 1973. The film is followed by an hour of programme, organised by the Hippocampus Library. The children can play and craft, before they finish their magical journey with the short animated movie “The Search for the Bird Turlipan”. Before the children leave for the day, they will have the chance to meet the real Santa, who is coming all the way from the North Pole to listen to the children’s Christmas wishes.
