Hippocampus, in keeping with their vision of making reading and learning fun for children, is hosting an interactive session with Professor Nicole Ostrowsky -  a visiting French physicist  – a firm believer in making science accessible to all audiences. In particular, she is a promoter of ‘learning science by doing’ and has organised an interactive scientific exhibition that is hugely popular in France, and has travelled to other European countries and USA.

Nicole Ostrowsky is the former head of the Laboratory of Physics and Condensed Matter at the University of Nice in France where she is now a Professor Emeritus. She began her career as a scientist for the French National Centre for Scientific Research, at the Ecole Normale Supérieure Laboratory in Paris, and then at Harvard University, USA. Passionate about new ways of teaching Science, she set up the ‘Exploratoire’, a collection of interactive scientific experiments that became a part of the Palais de la Découverte’s touring exhibitions.

Hippocampus is inviting an exciting mix of participants – comprising scientists, school science teachers and publishers of science magazines for children – to meet with Professor Nicole and exchange ideas on hands-on science for children. The session will be moderated by Dr. Shonali Chinniah a Marine Ecologist who has graduated from Cornell University and has taught at the university level in the US.  She has published and presented papers on Gelatinous Zooplankton and is currently involved popularising science amongst children.

This is a wonderful and stimulating opportunity for teachers to meet science lovers from various walks of life and explore different approaches to get children excited about science.
