And the Newbery goes to…
…one Lucky Winner!
![]()
Susan Patron was awarded the John Newbery award for her book The Higher Power of Lucky.
Announced just yesterday by the American Library Association, this is a huge deal because the Newbery and Caldecott awards are considered the Oscars of children’s literature. In fact, the Newbery award was the first ever award to be instituted for children’s books, as early as 1922! The Caldecott is given for the best picture book and this year it goes to David Wiesner for Flotsam.
If you want to read one of these award winning books, look out for the golden seal on the cover.
